Most
of the day we just traveled to celilo village. When we got to celilo village we
met five people. All concerned about the salmon and eels. Gabe sheoships, Paul
Lumley, Jeremy Garcia. When we got there we pulled weeds and cleaned around the
longhouse. The long house was not very clean in my opinion. I was taught to
take care of what is given so when I seen the longhouse I started cleaning
right away. We learned that eels are in a big decline in the Columbia River. In
the information book given to me it says a lot of information on the fish and
fishing rights. There used to be 6 to 11 million fish in the river each year
for harvest now there is way less. After water salmon is the first food honored
in tribal ceremonies. All four tribes work together to help brig and protect
the salmon. Those four tribes are Confederated Tribes and bands of the Yakama
nation, Nez Perce tribe, Confederated Tribes of the Warm Spring’s reservation
of Oregon, Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian reservation. The four
tribes have four main goals on. The first goal is to put fish back in the
rivers and protect watersheds. The second goal is to protect tribal treaty
fishing rights. The third goal is to share salmon culture. The fourth goal is
to provide fisher services.
