Day 3 7/14/2015

Today was fun we went hiking at Newberry National Volcanic Monument and in the lava river cave. I also met a woman named Christina she is the ranger manager at the NNVM. Christina told us to take every opportunity. The Deschutes national forest is huge and an outdoor museum. Christina also mention that there is no drilling or taking anything if you did take something there was a 500 fine and 5 -6 years in jail. There is a big chance for geothermal energy in the Deschutes national forest. The last eruption was about 1,300 years ago the eruption produces a big obsidian flow it’s the youngest lava flow in Oregon. There are three different types of lava in the Newberry volcano. There is obsidian, basalt, and andesite. The oldest lava flow was about 400,000 years ago. When we went to the lava cave we walked one mile down 55 stairs. The temperature was at 42 degrees Fahrenheit steady
